Welsh Immigrant Ancestors
Welsh Family History Archive - Welsh Ancestor List
For various reasons, for well over 300 years, Welsh men, women, and children have left their homeland and settled overseas, mostly in North America and Australasia, but also elsewhere.
Many visitors to my website are descendants of these Welsh immigrants and feel a compulsion to trace their Welsh roots. Unfortunately, a majority begin their research in Welsh records prematurely and are then disappointed because they make no progress. A great deal of essential work has to be done beforehand.
To find out if you are ready to begin your research in Wales and add an entry to the Welsh Ancestor List, answer these five questions about the immigrant ancestor(s) from whom you are descended:
- Do you know the full name of the immigrant?
- Do you know the date of a related event in Wales such as the immigrant's birth, baptism, or marriage?
- Do you know the place (county and parish, town, or village) in Wales where the event took place?
- Do you know the date when he/she arrived in your homeland?
- Finally, have you proven the links from yourself, back through each intermediate generation to your immigrant ancestor?
If you answered "Yes" to all the above questions, you probably DO have enough information to begin researching in Wales and you are justified in adding an entry to my Welsh Ancestor List.
You'll find useful help and advice on my Frequently Asked Questions feature - go to the section called Research Methods.
If you answered "No" to any of the above questions, you are NOT yet ready to begin researching your ancestors in Wales, and you do not yet have enough information to justify an entry on my Welsh Ancestor List. You first need to conduct more research in your homeland.
