Submitting an Ancestor List entry
REMINDER
The primary purpose of the Welsh Ancestor List is to act as a database of family details which have already been verified. It is not a message board, nor a place to display speculative information. You should therefore ensure you have supporting documentary evidence for all the details you submit for inclusion in the Welsh Ancestor List.
N.B. If you are tracing back your immigrant Welsh ancestors, please read these special notes before completing the form.
Welsh Ancestor List
Before you begin
Before entering your Welsh ancestral details on my on-line form, you need to carry out three essential tasks:
- Nominate a "Key Ancestor"
Consider carefully whom to nominate as your key ancestor, the individual under whose name the entry will appear in the Ancestor List. Your choice of key ancestor will influence which form you'll need and how you fill it in.
- Your key ancestor MUST have been born in Wales.
- For couples with children, I recommend that you nominate the male partner (e.g. husband) as the key ancestor, because the children will bear his surname. Full details of wife and children will then be included under the husband's name.
- A female partner may be nominated as the key ancestor, e.g. if she is a single woman; if the father of her child(ren) is not known; or for other reasons.
- Gather your data
The form is quite comprehensive, so before entering your data you'll need to collect together as many details as possible, including the sources of your data.
Please do NOT submit speculative information, i.e. data for which you have no reliable source.
Where available, I will include in your Welsh Ancestor List entry, information about three generations: the key ancestor and his/her spouse; their parents; and their children. You'll therefore need to have data (if available) for these three generations.
IMPORTANT: For reasons of privacy, please do not include information about people who are (or may be) still alive.
- Select the submission form
Having nominated your key ancestor and gathered your data, you can now choose the appropriate form. Use Form M if your key ancestor is male, or Form F if your key ancestor is female.
You may prefer to print out the form so you can study it at your leisure, before returning to my website and completing the on-line form.
Clicking on the appropriate button below will take you to your chosen form.
