Comments: I am going to be traveling to Wales in June of 1999, when I graduate from college. I will be going with about 15 other graduates (we will all be teachers) to explore the schools in Wales. We will also have time to go around to the castles and various other spots. I had thought Leitch was Welsh because my grandparents told me that I was part Welsh but I did not find anything that would link me to a Welsh family. Comments: Fabulous site! Just discovered it today. My grandfather, John Jenkins, was a Great Lakes ship captain who died about 1910. His father was a David Jenkins, date and place of birth unknown. David and family seem to have emigated from Glasgow, circa 1850, but since I was told we were Welsh he may have gone from Wales to Scotland and then to N. America. Comments: My mother, May Williams, was born in Penrhwceiber in 1913 and came to this country in 1928 . Her parents, Benjamin George Williams and Mary Jane (Davies) Williams were already here and so were her brothers and sister. She married into the Lloyd family who also came from Wales. My mother went to the Jerusleum Baptist Church in Penrhwceiber until she came to the US. I am planning a trip to Wales next spring to visit her birthplace and also the house where my great aunt, Bess Ann Hall lived on Harcourt Street. I am hoping to find these places in tact and be able to do more research on her life as well as her parents and my Dad's side as well.

In your e-mail, you said you lived near Crai, Devynnog and Cwmgiedd, but you didn't say where. I'm guessing Abercrave, Pen y Cae, Coelbren, Craig y nos or Glantawe. Of course, anywhere in Wales is close to anywhere else in Wales. As you might have guessed, I'm not the Welshman in the family. My wife, Audrey fills that category. But, I am a Celtophile. I'm as close to Audrey's family as I am to my own. Audrey has one cousin left in Cwmgiedd, 1 in Abercrave and 1 in Ystradgynlais. She has an aunt in Ystalyfera, Ellen (Nell) Williams, and cousins in Pontardawe, Pontypridd and Redditch, England So, we visit frequently. Last year I visited the Registrar in Hay on Wye. I must commend Deputy Registrar Rita Hall. She was most helpful with my research. The assistance at Swansea's West Glamorgan Archive Service was adequate, but ho-hum compared to Ms Hall in Hay. Another jewel was Jenny Gammon at the Library in Camarthen Town. She bent over backwards to assist me in my quest as compared to the County offices next door. Comments: I very much like your website. I currently research and write about the American Southwest here in New Mexico where there is a very active Welsh Society. Since 1994 I have had my own archive at the Center for Southwest Research at the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque, where are deposited photographs, papers and biographical details of my own carrer, and in which are several birth and marriage certicates dating to the 1860s as well as my father's war diary (WW11). I am currently writing/working on a biography of a local retired Navy Commander, and have several novels and published articles in the university library collection. I am interested in researching the family roots, originally stemming from Cork in Ireland. My father Hayden Wilde was one of ten children born in Blaenchlachau, Ferndale. He was born in 1906 and his Father (John Wilde), was born in County Cork. They were both soldiers in the British Army. Silly question... is Rice (Rhys) pronounced as 'Rees'? This seems to be a VERY common first name as well, atleast in our Watkins line, and I wonder what it signifies... our ancestors seemed to like to use previous surnames as first and middle names later on down the line. Comments: I am looking for a Welsh Ancestor, George Edgington, married Margaret Broome 1740 in Philadelphia. Moved to western Virginia (now W.VA) then to Holliday's Cove (now Weirton W.VA). Six sons and one daughter. Three sons went to Ohio in 1796 and my direct ancestor Isaac to my great grandmother Columbia Edgington are known to me. I am trying to make the connection back to Wales.
