Comments: 'Afternoon, John,
I don't need to write you every week, but I am really convinced your site and your archives are a national archive of great value.
The one today about a child's short life inscribed in verse on her gravestone really touched me:
Sacred to the Memory of Ellen Eliza Evans who died 7th November 1851 aged 5 years and 6 months
The verse was difficult to read, but appears to be:
Short pain, short grief dear babe was thine,
Now joys eternal and divine
Yes thou art fled and saints a welcome sing
Thine infant spirit soars on angel's wing.
Think how many millions of children would have had those thoughts from their parents. I think today our life span (now in the late 70s) is a result mostly of saving youngsters within the first 12 years or so of their lives. The total length of life has not increased much, but more of us are approaching it than before.
And I am not a poet nor a religious man, but I think that verse on the stone was expertly and artistically contrived. I'm going to keep it at hand to review every so often.
With high regard,
Tom

Comments: 'Morning John, I always enjoy your retrospective images. For the old farms, I was struck by the apparently primitive but really remarkable masonry, stones of all shapes and sizes, but apparently locked into place by a good eye and strong back. Probably never dry walls. And having stood for so long. The masonry is really beautiful, and it is worth standing back and studying it in detail. We take for granted the time and artistry and energy it took to make those stone houses. I really wish I lived in one. We are all wood here in Maine, except red brick in some ancient sea ports where it was used as ballast for home coming ships that went out laden with lumber. Of course all the brick buildings are very old in our time scale.
On the moving mountain, I presume the conclusion of "act of God" says there was no mining activity in the area. I wonder if inhabitants now have studied the most likely next move, and have taken precautions. Probably not. Not many of us humans think that way. I was unaware of that disaster and am glad to now be aware of it.
With regards,
Tom

Comments: I happened on your site by accident. I was born in Tredegar St James Hospital my father came from Bedwelty. I have been looking for a photo of the Church I was Baptised in so I could do a watercolour painting and I found just that on this wonderful site. Though I moved to the Midlands 52 years ago I still fondly think of Wales as my Home. As my aunt always says you can take the girl out of the valley but you cant take the valley out of the girl. Keep on taking the photos they are great.

Comments: Your site is so full of beauty and history, it took my breath away. My relatives are Morgan from Wales so it was wonderful to see places they probably frequented. Thanks for all your work.

Comments: I think this is the first time I have written in your guestbook. The scenes from the weather and results in Breconshire were awesome. Sorry, are awesome. I know that bridge. I have, in the past, had reason to visit the nearby library. Small world indeed. Keep warm and dry. Regards,
Maureen
